FIREPROOFING THE NORTH EAST’S HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS

Newbolt and Tennyson Court are two 12-storey blocks containing 136 dwellings situated in the centre of Gateshead. They were built as part of a redevelopment scheme in the mid-seventies. As part of our framework agreement with Gateshead Council in 2020, we were contracted to upgrade the fire protection within the communal areas of these high-rise developments.

We upgraded ceilings and walls in high-risk areas of the building with intumescent paints, this specialist coating providing an essential delay between the fire starting and taking hold or spreading, thereby ensuring the safety of all tenants.

We followed health and safety procedures stringently to eliminate the risks of accident or injury for both our team and tenants. All tenants were notified of the works before they commenced, a secure compound site was set up and all operatives wore branded workwear on site to ensure that we were easily identifiable. Clear information signage was erected and used materials were securely removed after completion.
