Davison Solutions was appointed to deliver the full painting and decorating package for Roomzzz Aparthotels‘ first Scottish location, within the St James development in the heart of Edinburgh.
The aparthotel features 74 apartments, along with a terrace and balconies offering views across the city’s historic landscape. With a premium interior scheme and a high-profile city-centre location, the decorative finish needed to meet the expectations of a modern hospitality space while standing up to the demands of a busy aparthotel.
The brief
This project called for a high-quality decorative finish throughout the new Roomzzz Edinburgh development, covering guest accommodation, corridors, communal areas, and back-of-house spaces.
As with any new hospitality space, the finish needed to look right from day one while also being suitable for areas that would see regular use once the hotel opened.
Our team was responsible for preparing and finishing the various surfaces across the development. We worked closely with the main contractor and other trades throughout the construction programme.
The project included detailed surface preparation, painting, and decorating, as well as the installation of feature wallpapers in selected areas. We used Dulux Trade products throughout to provide the required quality finish and durability.
The solution
Preparation played a major role in the quality of the finished spaces. Our team carried out taping and filling works to create smooth, consistent surfaces ready for the decorative coatings.
We then applied the specified Dulux Trade paint systems throughout the apartments and wider hotel areas, working across bedrooms, corridors, communal spaces, and back-of-house areas. This created a uniform finish throughout the building while allowing different areas of the interior scheme to have their own character.
We also installed feature wallpaper in selected areas, which adds texture and extra visual interest to the interior design. This specialist wallpapering work called for careful preparation and attention to detail to achieve a clean finish that complemented the surrounding decoration.
The work took place within a live construction environment, so flexibility was key. Access and sequencing could change as other trades progressed, meaning our team had to work closely with the wider project team and adapt where necessary.
Regular inspections and sign-offs formed part of the delivery process. This allowed the finish to be checked throughout the project rather than left until the final stages.

We completed the project to a high specification, contributing to the successful launch of Roomzzz Aparthotels’ first Scottish location. The completed decoration provided a premium finish throughout the building, while the feature wallpaper helped create standout moments within key guest areas.
The project also demonstrated our ability to deliver detailed painting, decorating, and wallpapering works within a busy construction programme, coordinating closely with other trades while maintaining the required standard across a large hospitality environment.
